Offender Rights: Communication and Religion

The 1st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution protects the communication and religious rights of all citizens, including inmates. However, these rights are not absolute. Officers working in correctional facilities must know how to balance the needs of the facility with the fundamental rights of inmates. This course will provide officers working in adult correctional facilities an overview of inmate’s communication and religious rights, actions they can take to protect these rights, and special considerations that can affect decision-making.
