Application of Evidence-Based Practice for Risk Reduction

Is the work you do with individuals under supervision in line with current evidence-based practice in community corrections?

Working with individuals under supervision can present a variety of challenges; however, it can be an extremely rewarding profession when you are presented with the right tools and training to do your job effectively. The good news—there is a growing body of research (i.e., evidence-based practice for risk reduction) that provides insight into how you can monitor and manage individuals under community supervision more effectively. The even better news—this training package consists of 3 courses designed to inform you of some of the current evidence-based practice in community corrections and provide you examples of how you can incorporate evidence-based practice into your everyday work with the individuals you supervise.

This 10.5 contact hour training package is accredited by the American Probation and Parole Association and includes the following courses:

• Using Assessment Tools: Learn how assessment tools can be used to enhance the decision-making process and guide the development of more effective community supervision practices and treatment plans for individuals under supervision.
• Understanding Responsivity: Learn about specific and general responsivity factors and how to consider these factors when assigning individuals under supervision to services and programs.
• Facilitating Offender Success with Effective Case Planning: Learn about criminogenic needs found in evidence-based practices literature that are shown to be associated with an individual’s delinquent or criminal behavior. Learn how to target interventions to address these needs and develop case plans to assist individuals under supervision change their behavior and achieve their supervision goals.
