Addressing the Needs of Crime Victims
Crime victims remember those who help and those who hurt. Don’t inadvertently be one who hurts.
Criminal victimization can be a devastating experience. Crime victims and survivors are often further victimized by an insensitive justice system that is oriented toward ensuring justice to offenders and meeting their needs for rehabilitation. With more than two-thirds of all offenders being sentenced to some type of community supervision, it is essential that probation and parole agencies develop programs and practices responsive to victims’ rights and needs.
This 11.25 contact hour training package is accredited by the American Probation and Parole Association.
This package includes the following courses:
• Promising Victim-Related Practices in Probation and Parole
• Empowering Crime Victims through Information and Notification
• Domestic Violence: Fundamentals for Community Corrections Practice
The first 2 courses in this package are designed to educate you about the fundamental rights and needs of crime victims and give you information and strategies for how you can protect and meet the needs of crime victims whose offenders are involved in the community corrections process. The third course in the package is an 8-hour course providing more detail on the needs and special circumstances to consider when working with domestic violence victims.
