Recorded Version of a Webinar Broadcast Live on July 9, 2014

With travel and training budgets shrinking, more community corrections agencies are turning to online learning as a formal training solution. Self-paced, online learning offers probation and parole agencies a cost-effective alternative employees can take at their scheduling convenience. Although online learning has distinct advantages in today’s workplace, some community corrections professionals miss the interaction that is a natural part of classroom-based training programs. For most people, the ability to dialogue and share ideas among individuals with common interests, problems, and issues is a critical component of the formal and informal learning process. The good news is that today’s technologies provide ways for us to accommodate these varying learning styles and preferences.

APPA has partnered with Relias Learning as its primary online training provider. Through the services and products that Relias Learning offers, APPA is able to extend cost-effective online and blended learning opportunities to help community corrections agencies and professionals meet their training needs. This session will provide an overview of the APPA and Relias Learning partnership, as well as explore several web-based training solutions offered by Relias and APPA to meet individual and agency training needs and to connect online learners to their peers for the purpose of extending the learning process for online courses.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the APPA and Relias Learning partnership.

  • Define and discuss how blended learning can be an effective solution for training delivery.

  • Identify online resources offered through Relias Learning and APPA to improve training outcomes.

Presenters:

Tracy G. Mullins, M.Ed., Deputy Director; American Probation and Parole Association

Gordon Decker, Product Manager, Corrections and Law Enforcement; Relias Learning
